Artist’s statement:
My practice deals with concerns and theorizing ideas within the field of physics, at this stage Thermodiymanics law one and two in particular. In response to issues of modernity in science my paintings are a method of processing and organizing information and dealing with the ideology in science. The semiotics of my work is operating as textual in terms of concrete poetry using the language of science to create affects.
I’m interested in what people are doing. Everybody is always doing something and is active in their work and energy output. It is a complex process, especially when it comes to establishing their identity within society.
The question of work and energy underpins this series which is based on thermodynamics within physics. But part of it also gives rise to a focus on modern satire and hierarchy, exploring the idea of what could happen if society could act as if it were a perpetual motion machine – defying the laws of physics – but in harmony and using its energy in total efficiency.
“Hierarchy” and “Youth” were influenced especially by Giacometti, in particular “Walking Man”, and the finished look he achieved. The hooded effect of the figures was influenced by Manfred Kielnhofer’s piece, “Time Guardians”.
